Testosterone Replacement Therapy can be life changing for the aging male if levels are low!

It’s hard not to notice all of the advertisements lately for low testosterone levels.  Why? It is a very common problem and one that truly can impact a man’s life on so many levels.  At The Natural Path, Dr. Robert Madda has been treating males with low testosterone for the past decade with great success.  What is testosterone? Well, the hormone also known is required to make sperm.  It also gives men body and facial hair through puberty, lowers the voice  and causes an increase in muscle mass.

As the male body ages, it is typical for testosterone levels to decline.  In todays’ world, with stress, low quality food, overeating, lack of exercise, environmental toxins, etc. we find testosterone levels to be significantly low in many men.  When your body doesn’t make enough T you will find a myriad of symptoms such as decreased libido, depression, fatigue/low energy, irritability and erectile dysfunction.  Many men also notice a significant loss in lean muscle mass.

Contributing Factors for low Testosterone Levels

Some estimates are that about as many as 5% of men have testosterone levels below 450 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL), which is a very low normal level where we often see symptoms.  There are many conditions that can lead to making low testosterone levels more likely.

  • Aging
  • Injury to the testicles
  • Overweight
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Cancer Treatments
  • Chronic Stress
  • Use of certain medications, including some antidepressants and narcotics
  • Testicular cancer
  • Liver or kidney issues
  • Type 2 diabetes

At The Natural Path, we always try to get to the root cause of low testosterone levels while also providing cutting edge treatments.   Dr. Madda will prescribe his patients with the form that seems to suit the patients needs the best and often this would be a weekly injection, a patch or testosterone pellets.  All of the testosterone optimization modalities used are of the highest pharmaceutical grade.

Are There Risks with Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)

While the benefits are clearly more prevalent than the risks they are important to mention. We are always careful to be sure that any patient under our care is analyzed for any potential risks from TRT.

We have not seen a lot of these side effects in our clinical practice, however, with TRT there is an increased chance of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH), prostate cancer, sleep apnea, blood clots, and congestive heart failure.

If you would like to learn more and find out if TRT is a good treatment option for you we would love to talk with you!
