Cleansing and Detoxing Your Home and BodyBeginning a workout routine can be difficult, and sticking with it for the long term takes practice. It can feel overwhelming to even know where to begin. There are so many options out there!  Most of us understand that exercise brings benefits, both physical and mental, and is very important to a healthy lifestyle. At The Natural Path, we discuss the benefits of exercise with all of our weight loss and hormone patients.

The Benefits of Exercise

Understanding the benefits of exercise and identifying your biggest motivating factors will help you stick to your plan to exercise regularly.

The Benefits of regular exercise:

  • Increases quality of life
  • Contributes to weight loss
  • Lengthens lifespan
  • Decreases risk of chronic disease
  • Improves mental health

Being physically active and exercising is a relatively easy and inexpensive way to stay healthy, but without motivation, it can be difficult to stick to. What is your motivation to exercise? It is important to get clear with your intentions.

Set the time aside and show up each and every time!  Sometimes, a class can hold you accountable to show up!

Start with Small Exercise Goals

Some people that want to begin an exercise routine and have never done so before may be tempted to jump right in and start out with grueling hour-long exercise routines. This may cause burnout and make you feel so miserable during your first session that you never want to do it again. Start small and make it enjoyable.

I like to remind my patients that 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise or 15 minutes a day of rigorous exercise would put you in the recommended range to see real health benefits such as cancer prevention, improved metabolism, and improved mental health.

Remember that physical fitness only happens when we are consistent with our actions. Consistency is more important than spending an excessive amount of time exercising on an irregular schedule. If you want to increase the frequency or duration of your workouts, try to do it in a way where exercise is still enjoyable.
