EXERCISE: Make it your Daily Non-Negotiable Rx
The Myriad of Exercise Health Benefits
One of the key health benefits of exercise is its ability to normalize
by optimizing insulin/leptin receptor sensitivity.
What Happens in Your Body When You Exercise?
• Muscles ~ with exercise, our bodies begin to use greater pulmonary function and therefore the heart rate increases and blood begins to go to the muscles. Muscles need glucose and ATP for movement and contraction. In order for this to function efficiently, the muscles need a greater supply of oxygen. Exercise can “tear” our muscle cells which invokes a healthy inflammatory response. The muscles actually become stronger as they heal.
• Lungs ~ While you are exercising, your muscles prefer 15 times the oxygen than they get at rest. In order to make this happen, your breathing deepens and becomes more rapid. The higher your VO2 max they say the higher your fitness level. Exercise gets the lungs and heart pumping and moving. No one wants stagnation in the heart and lungs!
Heart ~ We have discussed how the heart rate increases with exercise to bring more oxygenated and nutrient rich blood to the muscles.
• Brain ~ Studies show that participants have increased focus and mental clarity post workout. Exercise has also shown to promote the formation of new brain cells to help with memory and learning. The increased blood flow that comes from exercise is also beneficial to the brain and nervous system. As a result, many people claim that they feel more focused after a workout. I know I do!

Exercise can Make you HAPPY
In a study published in the journal Neuroscience in 2012, the“secret” to increased productivity and happiness
was a commitment over the long term to EXERCISE!!!Take a look at these images, showing the dramatic increase in brain activity after a 20 minute walk, compared to sitting quietly for the same amount of time.
Pretty amazing all of the things EXERCISE can do for our bodies!
