Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) in the SYNERGYrx Formulation for Weight Loss

HCG DIET WEIGHT LOSSThe medication Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist and was prescribed to block opioid effects of those with drug addiction.  When Naltrexone is given in low-doses, it can often help patients suffering from chronic pain, auto-immune issues, food sensitivities and sometimes body composition issues. This medication is known to have anti-inflammatory properties which can alleviate pain and reduce bodily inflammation leading to weight gain.

LDN and Weight Loss

Low-dose naltrexone (LDN) is part of our SYNERGYrx formulation at The Natural Path! In the pharmaceutical world, LDN has been found in the FDA approved drug “contrave.”  LDN does not help all patients lose weight. It is not understood exactly why some patients respond to this drug and others do not.  However, research shows that LDN can significantly lower insulin resistance, which is a frequent cause of weight gain.  I have also seen the SYNERGYrx formulation with LDN improve thyroid levels and therefore caution must be taken for those who supplement with thyroid hormone.

We definitely find LDN to be more effective for weight loss when combined with ADO-9604.  Check out www.naturalpathmed.com to learn more about the formulation.

Naltrexone can also promote weight loss by moderating the body’s appetite. LDN sends signals to the brain which indicate that the body is not hungry, so the desire to overeat dissipates. Eventually, changes in a person’s dietary behavior become habitual, which also helps keep the weight off.  THIS IS MY FAVORITE PART OF THE SYNERGYrx PROTOCOL.  I also find the AOD-9604 in the SYNERGYrx formulation to be a very important part of the effectiveness of the formulation.

Weight loss with LDN is not as rapid as with the HCG DIET, but it happens and can be maintainable if habits and patterns with food can be changed.  On our SYNERGYRx weight loss program, we also guide patients with a specific SYNERGYrx food plan and lots of guidance and support based on individual needs.

Side Effects and Contraindications with LDN / SYNERGYrx

LDN used in the SYENRGYrx formualtion may cause side effects, some of which can be serious. Notify a doctor immediately if any of the following symptoms occur after taking Naltrexone. These are rare and I have only seen an elevated heart rate transiently in my patient population.

  • Blood pressure increase
  • Heart rate increase
  • Manic behavior
  • Jaundice
  • Dark urine
  • Vision changes

Some lesser side effects include dry mouth, headache, insomnia, nausea, constipation, and diarrhea. However, careful monitoring and dosage adjustments may relieve these symptoms.

Additionally, some people should not take Naltrexone under any circumstances. Those diagnosed with the following conditions are not candidates for LDN therapy:

  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Liver or kidney diseases
  • Cardiovascular issues
  • Seizures
  • Eating disorders

Heavy alcohol users and those taking medications containing bupropion, such as Wellbutrin, are not Naltrexone candidates. Anyone using opioids or taking medication to block the effects thereof should not receive LDN. Furthermore, those who have undergone an organ transplant should refrain from using this drug.

Pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant should also not take Naltrexone. Finally, this drug is not available for people under age 18.
